The seller delivers when the goods are placed alongside the vessel nominated by the buyer — on the quay or on a barge — at the named port of shipment. Export clearance is the seller's responsibility.

Use it when

Bulk and break-bulk commodities: grain, ore, timber, heavy-lift project cargo.

Watch out

Never use FAS for containers — the container is handed to a terminal, not placed alongside a ship. Use FCA.
